Watford Central - a small group with a big heart

Welcome to Watford Central u3a the branch planned to be located in the centre of the town to serve members of the community from all parts of the area.
Hertfordshire and Watford in particular, has a number of branches around the district. Watford Central was opened because other branches had long waiting lists. However, we never grew to be one of the big ones. Our members find that they like being small because we easily get to know each other. That doesn't make us insular, we love having new members and many firm friendships have been forged over the years. We are, and always have been, more social in our approach. Our Interest Groups lean towards games - though ones that make you think, places to visit and enjoying company. At our monthly meeting we usually have a speaker (though we sometimes entertain ourselves) and the topics range from important and serious to the frivolous. We're lighthearted but take important things seriously.
The u3a is a UK-wide collection of 1000+ charities that provide the opportunity for those no longer in work to come together and learn for fun. Anyone in the so called, Third Age, can join and there is no lower age limitation. Branches are democratic, self-funded, self-managed and exist to provide a varied range of activities at minimum cost. Membership can include people who are working part time. Each u3a branch is unique and, if you wish, you can be members of several branches at the same time. Separate membership fees being paid to one. Watford Central holds a monthly meeting on the 1st Thursday of the month at the Ex-Services Club in St Albans Road at 2 p.m. If you wish to come to see if you like us you are welcome to two meetings, without charge. However, should you want to join in with the smaller groups straight away, we would ask you to become a member. Make contact with the Chair before you come so that we can look out for you.
Watford Central membership runs from April to March and this year was £24. If joining later in the year there is a sliding scale of charges. Membership includes a monthly newsletter sent by email. It gives all the information about events in the branch as well as other items of interest. If you are not on email a printed copy can be sent to you by First Class post for a fee to cover the postage.
